Southwest Rapid Rewards status tiers and Tier Qualifying Points (TQPs) thresholds

Southwest Rapid Rewards is Southwest Airlines' loyalty scheme. Southwest is not a member of Oneworld, SkyTeam or Star Alliance, so there is no alliance-wide status recognition: the benefits that apply are the ones Southwest publishes.

From 1 January 2027 the tiers are Silver, Gold and a new Platinum, reached on Tier Qualifying Points (TQPs) or on qualifying flights. Southwest has not restated in the pages we hold how long a tier lasts or whether a lower figure keeps it, so the table shows the figures to reach each tier and no retention figure. If you are counting 2026 Tier Qualifying Points, the 2026 figures apply: A-List 35,000 TQPs or 20 flights and A-List Preferred 70,000 or 40, and A-List becomes Silver and A-List Preferred becomes Gold on 1 January 2027.

Southwest Rapid Rewards tiers

Under the current (2026) terms, status is earned in a calendar year and lasts for the rest of that year and the whole of the next, and you must qualify again each calendar year. Southwest's 2027 pages we hold do not restate the window for Silver, Gold and Platinum.

TierTier Qualifying Points (TQPs) required from zero
Silver35,000
Gold65,000
Platinum140,000

These are the figures Southwest announced from 1 January 2027, when A-List becomes Silver and A-List Preferred becomes Gold automatically and Platinum is new. Each tier can also be reached on flights instead of points: 25, 50 and 100 qualifying flights for Silver, Gold and Platinum. This calculator measures Tier Qualifying Points only. What applies to flying in 2026 is different: A-List needs 35,000 Tier Qualifying Points or 20 qualifying one-way flights and A-List Preferred 70,000 or 40, and Companion Pass needs 135,000 Companion Pass qualifying points (a separate currency, retired on 31 December 2026) or 100 flights. Under the 2026 terms status lasts for the rest of the year it is earned in and the next, and must be re-earned each calendar year. The 2027 qualification window, how long Silver, Gold and Platinum last, and whether any lower figure keeps a tier are not stated in the pages we hold, so we show none. Three Companion Pass trips come from a Milestone Reward at 95,000 Tier Qualifying Points or 75 qualifying flights, which is not a tier; Platinum gives unlimited Companion Pass trips. From 1 January 2027, Southwest says every Rapid Rewards credit card earns "1 TQP for each $1" spent on purchases; its page prints "$" without naming the currency.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to A-List and A-List Preferred in 2027?
Southwest says members who have earned A-List status automatically transition to Silver on 1 January, and members who have earned A-List Preferred transition to Gold. Platinum is a new top tier.
Can you reach a tier on flights instead of Tier Qualifying Points?
Yes. Southwest lists each 2027 tier as a number of Tier Qualifying Points or a number of qualifying flights: 25 for Silver, 50 for Gold and 100 for Platinum. The tier-progress calculator measures Tier Qualifying Points only, so count your flights separately if that route suits you better.
What applies to flying in 2026?
The 2026 ladder is different: A-List needs 35,000 Tier Qualifying Points or 20 qualifying one-way flights, A-List Preferred 70,000 or 40, and Companion Pass 135,000 Companion Pass qualifying points or 100 flights. Under the 2026 terms status is earned in a calendar year and lasts for the rest of that year and the next. Companion Pass qualifying points are retired on 31 December 2026.
Can Status Lark calculate how many Tier Qualifying Points a flight earns?
Not yet. Southwest Rapid Rewards is not one of the programmes our earning calculator models, so this page covers the tier ladder only. The tier-progress calculator works from the Tier Qualifying Points you already hold.

Southwest Airlines is not a member of Oneworld, SkyTeam or Star Alliance, so Southwest Rapid Rewards status brings only the benefits the programme itself publishes.
