Virgin Atlantic Tier Points Calculator

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club awards a fixed number of Tier Points per flight segment, set by the cabin and fare type — not by distance or spend. Upper Class earns the most per sector; the lowest Economy fares earn the least.

Flying Club status tiers

Gold1,000Same as to reach

Keeping a tier is a different bar from reaching it. The last column is what Flying Club publishes for a member who already holds the tier, over a qualification window of the same length as the reaching figure’s (the window above says how it is anchored). “Same as to reach” means Flying Club says the same figure that reaches the tier keeps it. A dash means no retention figure comparable with the reaching one is shown for that rung, not that renewal is automatic; where the programme publishes one over a different window, its note gives it.

The 400 Tier Points that earned Silver still count towards Gold's 1,000; that is our reading of Virgin's absolute thresholds and of its own worked example (two Upper Class returns, 800 Tier Points, reaching Gold from Silver). The membership year is fixed, not rolling: it runs to the end of the calendar month you reach the tier, plus 12 months, and failing to requalify drops you one tier and resets Tier Points. Reward Flights also earn Tier Points. On Virgin's own flights the figure depends on distance: one value under 2,000 miles and a higher one at 2,000 miles and over (for example Upper Class 40 or 200, Premium 20 or 100, Economy 10 or 50 per segment), with lower values for discounted booking classes; classes G, P and A sit outside that banded table with single figures (G 100, P 50, A 25) and unknown banding. Virgin's membership-tiers page prints only the higher, un-banded figures, so a short sector may earn more than shown here; the two Virgin pages disagree and we follow the banded one because it is the cautious reading. Free and reduced-rate tickets, airport upgrades, Plusgrade bids, trade and industry fares and charters earn no Tier Points.

Frequently asked questions

How do Virgin Atlantic Tier Points work?
Each flight segment earns a fixed Tier Point amount determined by cabin and fare type — an Upper Class sector earns 200 Tier Points, Premium 100 and Economy 50 (25 in the deepest-discount classes), regardless of how long the flight is. This makes some short sectors unusually good value for status. Reward Flights earn Tier Points too.
Over what period do Tier Points count?
Flying Club uses a fixed 12-month membership year, not a 12-month look-back: status lasts 12 months from the date you attain it, and if you do not requalify within that time you drop one tier and your Tier Points return to zero. Verified against virginatlantic.com, August 2026.
Do SkyTeam partner flights earn Tier Points?
Some do. Virgin Atlantic publishes per-partner tables for Delta, Air France and KLM, keyed to booking class and — on Delta and the long-haul rows — to the length of the flight; those are the rates this calculator uses. For its other partners we hold no published Tier Point rate, so the calculator says so rather than estimating one. Set the operating carrier to check a specific flight.
