Flying Club at a glance

  • Flying Club has 2 elite tiers, from Silver at 400 Tier Points to Gold at 1,000 Tier Points.
  • Annual qualifying period — points accumulate across the full year.
  • Gold (1,000 Tier Points) is the lowest tier with SkyTeam Elite Plus lounge access.
  • A return between LHR and ATL on Virgin Atlantic earns 50–100 Tier Points in economy and 200–400 in business, depending on the booking class.
  • On the reference route LHR–NYC (JFK or EWR), flown by Delta Air Lines, one economy return earns 100 Tier Points in booking class Y, the highest-earning economy class we hold for that flight. That is 4 returns to Silver from zero.

Gold confers SkyTeam Elite Plus — the lowest tier in this programme with alliance-wide lounge access. Alliance mapping last verified 4 August 2026. Conditions beyond the threshold: Fixed 12-month membership year; Tier Points reset if you fail to requalify; Reward Flights also earn Tier Points. Compare lounge access across programmes →

Keeping a tier is a different bar from reaching it. The last column is what Flying Club publishes for a member who already holds the tier, over the same qualification window as the reaching figure. “Same as to reach” means Flying Club says the same figure that reaches the tier keeps it. A dash means no retention figure comparable with the reaching one is shown for that rung, not that renewal is automatic; where the programme publishes one over a different window, its note gives it.

The 400 Tier Points that earned Silver still count towards Gold's 1,000; that is our reading of Virgin's absolute thresholds and of its own worked example (two Upper Class returns, 800 Tier Points, reaching Gold from Silver). The membership year is fixed at 12 months, not rolling: failing to requalify drops you one tier and resets Tier Points. Reward Flights also earn Tier Points. On Virgin's own flights the figure depends on distance: one value under 2,000 miles and a higher one at 2,000 miles and over (for example Upper Class 40 or 200, Premium 20 or 100, Economy 10 or 50 per segment), with lower values for discounted booking classes; classes G, P and A sit outside that banded table with single figures (G 100, P 50, A 25) and unknown banding. Virgin's membership-tiers page prints only the higher, un-banded figures, so a short sector may earn more than shown here; the two Virgin pages disagree and we follow the banded one because it is the cautious reading. Free and reduced-rate tickets, airport upgrades, Plusgrade bids, trade and industry fares and charters earn no Tier Points.
