SUMA at a glance
- SUMA has 3 elite tiers, from Silver at 18,000 Level miles to Platinum at 60,000 Level miles.
- Rolling 12-month window — only points earned in the past year count.
- Gold (32,000 Level miles) is the lowest tier with SkyTeam Elite Plus lounge access.
- On the reference route LHR–NYC (JFK or EWR), flown by Virgin Atlantic, one economy return earns 10,354 Level miles in booking class Y, the highest-earning economy class we hold for that flight. That is 2 returns to Silver from zero by Level miles alone; Silver also has conditions beyond the threshold, listed under the tier ladder.
Elite tiers
| Tier | Level miles required from zero | To retain |
|---|---|---|
| Silver | 18,000 | Same as to reach |
| Gold SkyTeam Elite Plus | 32,000 | Same as to reach |
| Platinum | 60,000 | Same as to reach |
Gold confers SkyTeam Elite Plus — the lowest tier in this programme with alliance-wide lounge access. Alliance mapping last verified 8 August 2026. Conditions beyond the threshold: Flight-count alternative: 26 flights (Silver 14, Platinum 50); A minimum of 4 flights on Air Europa metal is required within the 12-month qualification period; Level Miles is the base Suma Miles/Bonus Business Miles figure — the +50/75/100% Silver/Gold/Platinum tier bonus is redeemable-only and does not count towards status. Keeping a tier is a different bar from reaching it. The last column is what SUMA publishes for a member who already holds the tier, over the same qualification window as the reaching figure. “Same as to reach” means SUMA says the same figure that reaches the tier keeps it. A dash means no retention figure comparable with the reaching one is shown for that rung, not that renewal is automatic; where the programme publishes one over a different window, its note gives it.
Requirements beyond the threshold
- Silver — At least 4 flights on Air Europa metal within the 12-month period.
- Gold — At least 4 flights on Air Europa metal within the 12-month period.
- Platinum — At least 4 flights on Air Europa metal within the 12-month period.
These apply in addition to the Level miles figure, so reaching the number alone does not confer the tier.
The flight-count alternative is Silver 14, Gold 26, Platinum 50 flights, with at least 4 flights on Air Europa metal within the 12-month period. Air Europa publishes two irreconcilable rules for that window — a flat rolling 12 months, and one that extends with each qualifying transaction — and we use the stricter, rolling reading. Level Miles come from flights and from carbon-offset credits (50 per €10); Suma Miles from hotels, car hire, the Suma store and the co-brand card earn none. Air Europa's English FAQ says otherwise, and we follow the three other sources we read. Enter the fare in euros: Air Europa publishes its rate per euro, and a sterling entry may overstate the result by roughly 17% if Air Europa treats £1 as €1, which we could not confirm. The Business bonus on booking classes J, C and D is our inference, and card-level bonuses (Silver +50%, Gold +75%, Platinum +100%) are not modelled, so figures are the no-status baseline.

Reaching this status
SUMA publishes conditions that sit alongside the Level miles threshold, so reaching the number on its own does not confer the tier. They are shown here and never scored — the Lark Score measures Level miles earned and nothing else. Where the published wording says more than the summary line, the wording governs.
Own-flight minimum
- At least 4 flights operated by Air Europa within 12 months.
Applies both when qualifying and when keeping a tier.
Scope ambiguous at source: Air Europa footnotes this minimum under the flight-count route only, and does not say whether it also binds the Level miles route. Disclosed rather than resolved.

SUMA: questions and answers
- How many Level miles do I need for SUMA status?
- From a standing start: Silver 18,000 Level miles, Gold 32,000 Level miles, Platinum 60,000 Level miles. The number alone is not always enough. Silver: At least 4 flights on Air Europa metal within the 12-month period. Gold: At least 4 flights on Air Europa metal within the 12-month period. Platinum: At least 4 flights on Air Europa metal within the 12-month period.
- Which SUMA tier gives lounge access?
- Gold, at 32,000 Level miles, is the lowest tier that confers SkyTeam Elite Plus, with lounge access across the alliance.
- How many flights does it take to reach SUMA status?
- On the reference route LHR–NYC (JFK or EWR), flown by Virgin Atlantic, one economy return earns 10,354 Level miles in booking class Y, the highest-earning economy class we hold for that flight. On that basis, the economy returns needed from zero are: Silver 2 (plus conditions), Gold 4 (plus conditions), Platinum 6 (plus conditions). Tiers marked with conditions also need more than the points; see the tier ladder. Other cabins, classes and routes earn differently; the calculator on this page prices your own trip.
