British Airways Tier Points Changes from 1 April 2027

Three things change at British Airways on 1 April 2027. The tier points needed in a collection year rise for Silver and Gold, from the collection year that starts on that date. The tier point totals for milestone rewards rise. The extra tier points on some premium long-haul fares fall, but only on flights from 1 April 2027 that were booked on or after 25 November 2026. A flight that departs between 1 April 2026 and 31 March 2027, or that was booked before 25 November 2026, keeps the previous rates.

Estimates only — confirm with the airline. British Airways' rules change on 1 April 2027. Check your own booking in Manage My Booking and on British Airways' own pages before you plan flights around it.

What changes on 1 April 2027

  • Tier points needed: Silver from 7,500 to 8,000 tier points, Gold from 20,000 to 21,000, and Bronze unchanged at 3,500.
  • Milestone rewards: tier point totals of 5,750, 12,000 and 17,000, for the same bonus Avios.
  • Extra tier points: lower rates for the World Traveller Plus Premium Economy fare, Club World and First, and for American Airlines and Iberia long-haul premium economy, business and first class.

BA says there are no changes to the extra tier points on short-haul flights or long-haul economy (World Traveller) flights. Its flights page prints 1 tier point for every £1 of eligible spend and gives no date for any change to that.

Does my flight keep the old rates?

Two dates decide it: the day your flight departs and the day you booked.

Flight departsBookedRate
Between 1 April 2026 and 31 March 2027Any datePrevious rate
From 1 April 2027 onwardsBefore 25 November 2026Previous rate
From 1 April 2027 onwardsOn or after 25 November 2026New rate

These worked examples use BA's own figures:

  • Club World Semi-Flex departing on 31 March 2027, booked on 1 December 2026: 700 extra tier points. The flight departs by 31 March 2027, so the booking date makes no difference.
  • Club World Semi-Flex departing on 1 April 2027, booked on 24 November 2026: 700. It was booked before 25 November 2026, so the flight date makes no difference.
  • Club World Semi-Flex departing on 1 April 2027, booked on 25 November 2026: 400. Both conditions for the new rate are met.
  • World Traveller Plus Premium Economy departing on 14 May 2027, booked on 1 December 2026: 175. The previous rate was 275.
  • World Traveller Plus Semi-Flex on those same dates: 375, the same figure in both lists.
  • World Traveller Flex on any dates: 350, because long-haul economy does not change.
  • American Airlines long-haul business class departing on 14 May 2027, booked on 1 December 2026: 200. The previous rate was 500.
  • American Airlines short-haul business class on those same dates: 175, because short haul does not change.

Extra tier points sit on top of the tier points from your spend. On a Club World Business fare with £1,900 of eligible spend, flown from 1 April 2027, that is 2,400 tier points if it was booked before 25 November 2026 and 2,100 if it was booked on or after that date.

BA awards extra tier points per individual flight and words its rule around when a flight departs, so we read each flight of a return on its own date. On that reading, a Club World Semi-Flex return booked on 1 December 2026, out on 30 March 2027 and back on 2 April 2027, earns 700 on the way out and 400 on the way back. That is our inference: BA gives no example of a return that crosses 1 April.

Once you have booked, BA shows the tier points you will earn in Manage My Booking.

The collection year

BA counts tier points in a collection year from 1 April to 31 March. If you join after 1 April, your first collection period runs from the day you join to 31 March. Tier points expire at the end of the collection year on 31 March, and BA's terms say your level returns to zero. So tier points earned up to 31 March 2027 count towards 7,500 for Silver and 20,000 for Gold, and they do not carry into the year that asks for 8,000 and 21,000.

The tier you hold runs on a different clock. A new tier lasts "for the rest of your current membership year, which ends on 30 April every year, plus the whole of the next membership year". On that wording, a tier reached in January 2027 lasts to 30 April 2028. BA's own example is that your tier points reset to zero on 31 March and you stay Silver for another 13 months.

What BA does not say

  • Changed tickets. BA does not say whether a ticket changed on or after 25 November 2026 keeps its original booking date for these rates. Its page says only that if your ticket price changes, your tier points are based on the total eligible spend for your updated ticket.
  • A flight on 31 March. BA does not say which collection year a flight on 31 March counts in if its tier points reach your account in April. It says tier points for British Airways flights are credited up to three days after the flight, and air partners can take up to seven days.
  • Gold Guest List in 2027. BA's page gives no 2027 figure. Its Conditions of Use, which call this Concorde Room eligibility, give 65,000 tier points in one collection year (at least 52,000 on British Airways), then 40,000 (at least 32,000) in each year after.
  • The 25 and 50-flight routes. BA's Bronze and Silver pages, which already print the 2027 tier points, keep 25 and 50 flights beside them, and no page dates the flight routes.

If one of these decides your plans, ask BA.

Check a flight in the calculator

Enter your flight date and the calculator uses the rates for that date. If the figure depends on when you booked, it shows both figures and asks which applies.

The figure is an estimate. The same tool has its own page, the BA tier points calculator.
