Royal Jordanian Status Match: Keeping Royal Club Status
Royal Jordanian has run repeated status-match campaigns for its Royal Club programme, including offers open to UK-based members, and they are among the most generous routes into oneworld status anywhere. This guide covers what a match is actually worth, and — the question every matched member reaches within a year — exactly what it takes to keep it.
Match campaigns come and go, and their terms change without much notice, so we deliberately do not reproduce any specific offer here: check Royal Jordanian's current published terms before applying. What follows is the part that stays true between campaigns.
What Royal Club status is worth
Royal Club's tiers map onto oneworld's shared benefit levels, which apply across every member airline regardless of the cabin you fly:

The reason a Royal Club match matters to a British Airways-orbit flyer is arithmetic: Sapphire through The British Airways Club means BA Silver at 7,500 Tier Points of spend-based earning, while Gold Sparrow grants the same alliance-wide benefits from a match — and keeps them for markedly less flying than earning them from scratch.
Keeping it: the retention thresholds
A matched tier is only as good as your ability to renew it. Royal Club's retention bars are lower than the earning bars, and they are the numbers a matched member actually needs:

Note Platinum Hawk's quirk: it is valid for two years, and its maintenance figure is measured over that longer window — which makes it the one tier that is genuinely harder to keep than to reach. Royal Jordanian also sells Tier Miles outright, so a shortfall can, unusually, be bought.
Earning Tier Miles without flying Royal Jordanian
Tier Miles accrue on Royal Jordanian and on oneworld flights (codeshares must be oneworld-marketed and oneworld-operated). We hold Royal Jordanian's published per-class rates for sixteen partner airlines, taken from its own mileage calculator, so the calculator below prices a retention plan precisely. To give a feel for the shape of it, on British Airways-operated flights Tier Miles accrue at 100% of miles flown in flexible economy classes (the most discounted economy letters earn 25%), 125% in Club World and 150% in First — so a single London–New York return in Club World earns roughly 8,600 Tier Miles, and Gold Sparrow's 30,000-mile retention bar is about three and a half such returns, or the 26-segment route for short-haul flyers.
The own-metal rule — published, and apparently not enforced
The Royal Club terms require a minimum number of Royal Jordanian-operated flights at each tier: four at Silver Jay, ten at Gold Sparrow, twenty at Platinum Hawk. That clause is still in the terms, unchanged since 2018 and live as of 31 August 2026. But Royal Jordanian's own tier pages state only the mileage and segment thresholds, its service centre has repeatedly told members that oneworld partner flights alone qualify, and one member reportedly reached Platinum Hawk in 2025 entirely on Iberia flights.
We show the requirement, because the terms are what Royal Jordanian can enforce at any moment without notice. Treat a pure-partner path as possible but not guaranteed: if your renewal depends on it, know that you are relying on current practice rather than the contract. One practical wrinkle members report: partner Tier Mile claims sometimes need filing manually, so keep boarding passes.
