Emirates Skywards status tiers and Tier Miles thresholds

Emirates Skywards is Emirates' loyalty programme. Emirates is not a member of Oneworld, SkyTeam or Star Alliance, so there is no alliance-wide status recognition: the benefits that apply are the ones Emirates Skywards publishes.

Members join at Blue and move up through Silver, Gold and Platinum by earning Tier Miles over 12 months. Keeping a tier takes the same number of Tier Miles as reaching it, and Platinum also needs a flight in Business or First Class. The table below sets out the published figures.

Emirates Skywards tiers

Emirates checks for an upgrade every time you earn Tier Miles, counting those earned in the last 12 months. Your tier is reviewed 12 months after you move into it (to the end of that calendar month, under the Programme Rules), against the Tier Miles earned in that review period.

TierTier Miles required from zeroTo retain
Silver25,000Same as to reach
Gold50,000Same as to reach
Platinum150,000Same as to reach

Keeping a tier is a different bar from reaching it. The last column is what Emirates Skywards publishes for a member who already holds the tier, over a qualification window of the same length as the reaching figure’s (the window above says how it is anchored). “Same as to reach” means Emirates Skywards says the same figure that reaches the tier keeps it. A dash means no retention figure comparable with the reaching one is shown for that rung, not that renewal is automatic; where the programme publishes one over a different window, its note gives it.

Requirements beyond the threshold

  • Platinum — At least one Qualifying Flight in Business or First Class, not booked with Cash + Miles or as a reward, to reach and to keep the tier.

These apply in addition to the Tier Miles figure, so reaching the number alone does not confer the tier.

The Programme Rules also let you reach or keep Silver with 25 Qualifying Flights instead of the Tier Miles, and list 50 Qualifying Flights for Gold in the same way (the stored text drops the word "or" there); flights on Cash + Miles or reward tickets do not count. This calculator measures Tier Miles only. Platinum also needs at least one Qualifying Flight in Business or First Class. Tier Miles beyond what a tier needs do not carry forward to the next period, unless you are a Platinum member who has activated Emirates' Tier Miles Rollover privilege, whose terms are not in the pages we hold.

Frequently asked questions

How do Emirates Skywards upgrades work?
Emirates checks whether you are ready to move up every time you earn Tier Miles, so you can be upgraded at any point in the year. It counts the Tier Miles earned in the last 12 months.
How do you keep an Emirates Skywards tier?
Your first tier review takes place 12 months after you move into a tier. To keep it you need the same Tier Miles as to reach it over that review period, and for Platinum a Business or First Class flight. If you fall short, you move down a tier.
Can you reach Silver or Gold on flights instead of Tier Miles?
For Silver, yes: the Programme Rules accept 25 Qualifying Flights instead of 25,000 Tier Miles. They list 50 Qualifying Flights for Gold in the same way, though without the word "or" that Silver's entry has. Flights booked with Cash + Miles or as a reward are excluded. The tier-progress calculator measures Tier Miles only, so count your flights separately if that route suits you better.
Can Status Lark calculate how many Tier Miles a flight earns?
Not yet. Emirates Skywards is not one of the programmes our earning calculator models, so this page covers the tier ladder only. The tier-progress calculator works from the Tier Miles you already hold.

Emirates is not a member of Oneworld, SkyTeam or Star Alliance, so Emirates Skywards status brings only the benefits the programme itself publishes.
