Smiles status tiers and milhas qualificáveis thresholds
Smiles is the loyalty programme of the Brazilian airline GOL. GOL is not a member of Oneworld, SkyTeam or Star Alliance, so there is no alliance-wide status recognition: the benefits that apply are the ones Smiles publishes.
Members join at the Smiles category and move up through Prata, Ouro, Diamante and Magno by collecting milhas qualificáveis (qualifying miles) or trechos qualificáveis (qualifying segments) between January and December. The first three tiers accept either; Magno needs both. Keeping a category takes the same figures as reaching it. The table below sets out the published miles figures.
Smiles tiers
Milhas qualificáveis and trechos qualificáveis count from January to December. You move up as soon as you reach a category's figure. Smiles counts each year's balance on 31 December, keeps your category to 31 March either way, and applies any change from 1 April.
| Tier | milhas qualificáveis required from zero | To retain |
|---|---|---|
| Prata | 6,000 | Same as to reach |
| Ouro | 12,000 | Same as to reach |
| Diamante | 24,000 | Same as to reach |
| Magno | 50,000 | Same as to reach |
Keeping a tier is a different bar from reaching it. The last column is what Smiles publishes for a member who already holds the tier, over a qualification window of the same length as the reaching figure’s (the window above says how it is anchored). “Same as to reach” means Smiles says the same figure that reaches the tier keeps it. A dash means no retention figure comparable with the reaching one is shown for that rung, not that renewal is automatic; where the programme publishes one over a different window, its note gives it.
Requirements beyond the threshold
- Magno — 50 trechos qualificáveis (qualifying segments) in the same calendar year as well, to reach and to keep the category.
These apply in addition to the milhas qualificáveis figure, so reaching the number alone does not confer the tier.
Prata, Ouro and Diamante can also be reached or kept with 6, 12 or 24 trechos qualificáveis (qualifying segments) instead of the miles; Magno needs 50,000 milhas qualificáveis and 50 trechos qualificáveis together. This calculator measures milhas qualificáveis only. Smiles carries any excess into the next year: on 1 January it deducts the figure for your category and the rest stays in your count, so enter the balance your Smiles account shows. Miles from Clube Smiles plans and the GOL Smiles credit card count at 10 to 1, and bonus miles do not count. If you fall short and your category is due to expire, you drop one category. A Clube Smiles 20.000 plan can also give eligible members Diamante for as long as the plan is active; this calculator does not model that.

Frequently asked questions
- How do Smiles category upgrades work?
- You move up as soon as your qualifying miles or qualifying segments for the calendar year reach the next category, whichever comes first, and the new benefits start straight away. Magno is the exception: it needs 50,000 qualifying miles and 50 qualifying segments together.
- How do you keep a Smiles category?
- Smiles counts your qualifying miles and segments on 31 December. Keeping a category takes the same figures as reaching it. You keep your category to 31 March regardless, and if you fell short and your category is due to expire, you move down one category from 1 April.
- What happens to qualifying miles above what a category needs?
- Smiles carries them over. On 1 January it deducts the figure for your category (or the one below, if you fell short) and the rest counts towards the new year.
- Can Status Lark calculate how many qualifying miles a flight earns?
- Not yet. Smiles is not one of the programmes our earning calculator models, so this page covers the category ladder only. The tier-progress calculator works from the qualifying miles you already hold.
GOL is not a member of Oneworld, SkyTeam or Star Alliance, so Smiles status brings only the benefits the programme itself publishes.
