Velocity Frequent Flyer status tiers and Status Credits thresholds

Velocity Frequent Flyer is Virgin Australia's loyalty programme. Virgin Australia is not a member of Oneworld, SkyTeam or Star Alliance, so there is no alliance-wide status recognition: the benefits that apply are the ones Velocity publishes.

Members start at Red and move up through Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum Plus by collecting Status Credits. Each tier needs a total and, within it, a minimum earned on Virgin Australia flights you fly yourself. The table below sets out both, with the figures that keep each tier (lower for Silver, Gold and Platinum).

Velocity Frequent Flyer tiers

Upgrades count the Status Credits earned in the previous 365 days. Keeping a tier is assessed after your Review Date, over your Benefit Period: typically 12 months from the day your status was last upgraded, maintained or downgraded.

Keeping a tier is a different bar from reaching it. The last column is what Velocity Frequent Flyer publishes for a member who already holds the tier, over a qualification window of the same length as the reaching figure’s (the window above says how it is anchored). “Same as to reach” means Velocity Frequent Flyer says the same figure that reaches the tier keeps it. A dash means no retention figure comparable with the reaching one is shown for that rung, not that renewal is automatic; where the programme publishes one over a different window, its note gives it.

Requirements beyond the threshold

  • Silver — At least 125 Status Credits from eligible Virgin Australia marketed or operated flights flown by you (100 to keep the tier).
  • Gold — At least 250 Status Credits from eligible Virgin Australia marketed or operated flights flown by you (200 to keep the tier).
  • Platinum — At least 500 Status Credits from eligible Virgin Australia marketed or operated flights flown by you (400 to keep the tier).
  • Platinum Plus — At least 1,500 Status Credits from eligible Virgin Australia marketed or operated flights flown by you, to reach and to keep the tier.

These apply in addition to the Status Credits figure, so reaching the number alone does not confer the tier.

Every tier also needs a minimum of its Status Credits from eligible Virgin Australia marketed or operated flights that you fly yourself: half of the total for Silver, Gold and Platinum, three quarters for Platinum Plus. Status Credits count for 365 days from the day they are earned.

Frequently asked questions

How do Velocity upgrades work?
You move up as soon as you meet both the total Status Credits for the next tier and its minimum from eligible Virgin Australia marketed or operated flights flown by you. Velocity looks at the Status Credits earned in the previous 365 days, so credits older than that no longer count towards an upgrade.
Is keeping a Velocity tier easier than reaching it?
For Silver, Gold and Platinum, yes: each has a lower total to keep it, assessed over your Benefit Period. Platinum Plus is kept at the same 2,000 Status Credits it takes to reach. If you fall short at your Review Date, you move down one tier.
How do you earn Status Credits?
Velocity names five ways: flying Virgin Australia on eligible fares, flying its airline partners, pooling Status Credits with family members, linking a Flybuys account, and a Velocity points-earning credit card. Only Virgin Australia marketed or operated flights count towards each tier's minimum.
Can Status Lark calculate how many Status Credits a flight earns?
Not yet. Velocity is not one of the programmes our earning calculator models, so this page covers the tier ladder only. The tier-progress calculator works from the Status Credits you already hold.

Virgin Australia is not a member of Oneworld, SkyTeam or Star Alliance, so Velocity Frequent Flyer status brings only the benefits the programme itself publishes.
