Cathay status tiers and Status Points thresholds

Cathay at a glance

  • Cathay has 4 elite tiers, from Silver at 300 Status Points to Diamond Exec at 2,400 Status Points.
  • Annual qualifying period — points accumulate across the full year.
  • Gold (600 Status Points) is the lowest tier with Oneworld Sapphire lounge access.
  • A return between LHR and HKG on Cathay Pacific earns 100–120 Status Points in economy and 200–260 in business, depending on the booking class. Cathay Pacific publishes no list of its letters, so the range uses typical letters for each cabin.
  • On the reference route LHR–NYC (JFK or EWR), flown by American Airlines, one economy return earns 40 Status Points in booking class Y, the highest-earning economy class we hold for that flight. That is 8 returns to Silver from zero by Status Points alone; Silver also has conditions beyond the threshold, listed under the tier ladder.

Keeping a tier is a different bar from reaching it. The last column is what Cathay publishes for a member who already holds the tier, over the same qualification window as the reaching figure. “Same as to reach” means Cathay says the same figure that reaches the tier keeps it. A dash means no retention figure comparable with the reaching one is shown for that rung, not that renewal is automatic; where the programme publishes one over a different window, its note gives it.

Requirements beyond the threshold

  • Silver — At least one eligible sector on Cathay Pacific.
  • Gold — At least one eligible sector on Cathay Pacific.
  • Diamond — At least one eligible sector on Cathay Pacific.

These apply in addition to the Status Points figure, so reaching the number alone does not confer the tier.

Two Status Point counters run through 2026. The figures here are the calendar-year count: Status Points earned between 1 January and 31 December 2026 set your 2027 status (300 for Silver, 600 for Gold, 1,200 for Diamond and 2,400 for Diamond Exec). An in-year upgrade works differently — your points reset on any upgrade, renewal or downgrade, an upgrade costs 300 to Silver and then 600 more to Gold, and every 2026 membership ends on 31 December 2026 — and Cathay does not allow skipping a tier. Cathay says every Status Point earned in 2026 counts twice, towards your current membership and again towards your 2027 status, so an in-year upgrade does not reduce your calendar-year tally. To renew or upgrade within the year Cathay asks for at least one eligible Cathay Pacific sector; its transition page also says progressing to the next status needs at least two eligible sectors on flights marketed by Cathay Pacific, without saying whether that already applies to the 2026 count.

Reaching this status

Cathay publishes conditions that sit alongside the Status Points threshold, so reaching the number on its own does not confer the tier. They are shown here and never scored — the Lark Score measures Status Points earned and nothing else. Where the published wording says more than the summary line, the wording governs.

Own-flight minimum

  • At least 1 sector on flights operated by Cathay Pacific.

Applies both when qualifying and when keeping a tier.

Cathay's membership programme resets on 31 December 2026 under the 2027 restructure, so this condition should be re-checked after that date.

What a return earns

  • A return between LHR and HKG on Cathay Pacific earns 100–120 Status Points in economy and 200–260 in business, depending on the booking class. Cathay Pacific publishes no list of its letters, so the range uses typical letters for each cabin.
  • On the reference route LHR–NYC (JFK or EWR), flown by American Airlines, one economy return earns 40 Status Points in booking class Y, the highest-earning economy class we hold for that flight.
  • On the reference route LHR–CDG, flown by British Airways, one economy return earns 10 Status Points in booking class Y, the highest-earning economy class we hold for that flight.

Cathay: questions and answers

How many Status Points do I need for Cathay status?
From a standing start: Silver 300 Status Points, Gold 600 Status Points, Diamond 1,200 Status Points, Diamond Exec 2,400 Status Points. The number alone is not always enough. Silver: At least one eligible sector on Cathay Pacific. Gold: At least one eligible sector on Cathay Pacific. Diamond: At least one eligible sector on Cathay Pacific.
Which Cathay tier gives lounge access?
Gold, at 600 Status Points, is the lowest tier that confers Oneworld Sapphire, with lounge access across the alliance.
How many flights does it take to reach Cathay status?
On the reference route LHR–NYC (JFK or EWR), flown by American Airlines, one economy return earns 40 Status Points in booking class Y, the highest-earning economy class we hold for that flight. On that basis, the economy returns needed from zero are: Silver 8 (plus conditions), Gold 15 (plus conditions), Diamond 30 (plus conditions), Diamond Exec 60. Tiers marked with conditions also need more than the points; see the tier ladder. Other cabins, classes and routes earn differently; the calculator on this page prices your own trip.
